[Kara feels so guilty about what she's wrapped up in now - she wants to help people; she wants to keep everyone here safe. But she's deeply not sure if she's on the right side or not. So, with all of that swarming around in her head, she sends Frank a short, simple text.]

[ it wasn't like her to not make it anywhere, he didn't think. but he had gone to the theater alone with a book and staked it out. nothing happened. a part of him thought (and maybe hoped) she had found better friends here. it's slowly coming to him that the truth might be worse. ]

[After Eleven finishes offering herself up to help with the Kilgrave problem Jessica's presented, she makes a beeline straight toward house six. She just lets herself in and looks around before eventually ending up trying to get into the garage. She's really worked up, tears and trembling and everything, so he better be there!!]

[ he's been tracking jessica's post carefully. he's worried eleven might do something stupid. the rattle at his door startles him, and he goes to answer it immediately, not wanting whoever it is to make more noise. if it's someone kilgrave got to, well then so be it. he peels back the door silently and frowns, certainly not expecting to see the one person he's most worried about now. he ushers her inside, past the makeshift fighting arena and the giant fucking skull he painted on the wall. this is kind of innappropriate for children huh??? there's dried blood on the mat and maybe also on his jumpsuit. his face looks worse not better than when she'd seen it before, parts of his bruising yellowing with age but there's fresh, red bruises too.

there's something like a curtain that separates the "dojo" space from the tiny space where his bed and bookshelf reside. there's a book open on his bed. he frowns at her like what happened. ]

[HELLO new minion, congratulations on getting your first message from Kilgrave. After finding him in the reset room instead of Kara, Kilgrave wasted no time in mind whammying the dude in that awful purple jumpsuit (purple is his colour, Frank, no one else can wear it like he can) and so here they are, with Frank under orders to go about his normal everyday existence, whatever that looks like, and to report in to Kilgrave at regular intervals.

And of course, he's also been told to follow any instructions given by Kilgrave in text. So here we are.]

You've had time to get your memories back. Tell me what happened to Kara. Where is she?

they didn't tell me that. [ and he still is missing some memories buddy but he won't even bother with that part. ]

[ Kara remembers.

Kara remembers, and that's terrible. She hasn't slept, huddled on the cot in this shack in the middle of nowhere Jessica had found for them, her knees to her chest, as she stares at blank walls and a bottle of whiskey that she hasn't touched.

She killed Frank. She killed Frank. He died, and she murdered him. She couldn't stop herself. Of all the things Kilgrave could make her do, she should have been able to stop that one.

You tried to stop it, she tells herself. A sentiment Jessica echoes when she strides through, whenever Kara dares to touch her device, to type out any guilt-ridden thought she's having. But trying wasn't good enough!

She can see it, can hear it, each laser shot aimed right at Frank, the first few missing at the last second before they just... don't anymore, and soon Frank's falling, and it's worse. Oh, Rao, it's so much worse than watching Jessica die. That had been awful, had crushed Kara to witness, to not stop, to not save the day, but this?

She'd screamed. She'd wanted to stop herself, her hands balled into fists so tightly that her knuckles were white, her boots digging into the ground as she tried to hold herself back.

It's not like she even really remembers dying. Fighting is loud. She was loud. Frank would dodge, narrowly escape, and Kara was screaming, screaming like a mad woman, hysterical at her own actions. Trees fell around her, crashing onto the ground from the lasers that cut them in two. She remembers Frank falling, twisted and in agony, until he's still, and then she remembers a swoop of black, a wheezing hiss of breath, a smattering of electric green coursing over her skin.

And that's all she remembers from dying, and it's enough. She can't move, can't eat. Kilgrave had made her kill. And, oh God, all the things he'd done to her. She wants to claw her skin off, to get rid of all the parts of her he's touched, from the inside out. And she let him, and she'd liked it, and her stomach roils with disgust. At Kilgrave, at herself.

Holy crap, she's a murderer.

She's glad Jessica has, essentially, locked her up and thrown away the key. Except there's no locks in this godforsaken place. Her device has flashed, the occasional message from friends she's made, strangers at first until each face, each name came back to her. What if she killed them next? What if the Sound Eaters weren't anything to fear when she was here? She gags, presses her face into the thin mattress to muffle the sounds as she heaves. Her stomach is empty, thankfully, but that doesn't stop the muscles clenching, the rawness of her throat.

Over the course of the first day she remembers, Kara opens up a message to Frank and closes it again. What can she possibly say that will ever be enough? Where the hell does she even begin? "Sorry for killing you"? She can't ever be sorry enough for this.

Serendipitously, it's an accidental text that starts the conversation. Kara's got a message to Frank open - blank, confused, when her chest grows tight for the millionth time and she struggles to breathe, her hands on her neck as she rolls onto her back and tries to claw for air, color draining from her face. She killed him! Rao's name, she killed her friend, she killed someone. Her stomach flips again, and she rolls over, her hands sliding over the mattress as she hangs her head over the side and gags, her mind overwhelmed with everything to focus on where her hands land, where her device is. her palm skids over the touchscreen and while she's panicking, she sends Frank a mistyped, nonsense message. ]

[ it's with micro's help that he remembers trying to save kara. or he supposes he had, or jess had. the details are all fuzzy still, but he remembers now. her screaming as she was finally taken. he had smiled, bleeding out, the only sound a faint gurgle of blood as it forces its way up through his lips. apparently that's not enough to get those bastards' attention, but he doesn't care. he carried out his mission, he did what he came here to do.

jessica better hold up her end of the bargain and keep kara safe now, but he's worried about her too. he knows jess is immune to kilgrave's thrall, but that doesn't mean she's unaffected. sometimes he thinks he's the only one who sees it: how deeply she really cares.

as his vision blessedly goes black at last, he sees maria standing there. she holds out her hand to him, and he reaches out-- on some level he knows he won't get to be with his family yet. that frank castle's war is never really over. and then there's red dust in his lungs again and everything hurts for how acutely it doesn't.

his native friend: the mother of the twin boys, sees him shuffling along with his tattered jumpsuit and presses a fresh one into his hands. it's purple and it reminds him of the shirt madani gave him back home. she's gone and then it's kilgrave there instead, murmuring terrible nothings into his ear. he knew this day was coming, but still dreaded it with every fiber of his being. and he resents it now, even if he can't show it.

be polite. he bites the inside of his lip. he's gotten off easy compared to jess and kara. he wants to kill him for what he did. but he'll just come back. over and over and over again.

kara's username lights up his screen and his heart seizes. dare he read it? he has to report everything back to kilgrave that she says, but there's no way he can stop himself from opening the message. he isn't sure which compels him faster; kilgrave's orders or his own pumping heart.

instead of any sort of resolution he sees a jumble of letters. where's kara? tell the truth. he takes in a sharp, but silent breath. ] kara?

[Kamala has tried to be patient. He doesn't owe her anything. He's not her father or friend. He's just the guy who helped her out. Maybe this is his way of pushing her out of the nest. If so, it worked. She's been managing pretty okay without him and his partner. It gets harder as time goes on. The worry builds up. It's hard not to resent him for just dropping her. Wasn't she nice enough? Fun enough? She spins herself in circles over it and starts to wonder if this is karma for how she's treated Nakia as of late.

At any moment she's either hating them or herself for the way things worked out until it boils over. She's going to talk to him about this whether he likes it or not. Eventually she manages to catch him (or he's letting himself be found more likely) and holds up her device with a message.]

We need to talk. NOW. [If the caps aren't a hint, the look on her face makes it clear she's pretty upset. She's more worried than angry despite the front she's putting up. Is he okay? What happened to him? That's all she really wants to know.]

[ frank is sitting out on the porch, feeling lighter than he can remember feeling since arriving in this place. he senses a shift in the air with her approach, though it's silent, managing to look up just in time for the device to be thrust poignantly in his face. as ever, he doesn't have his out, but he's happy to see her, his smile instant as it crinkles up the corners of his eyes. it isn't like that creepy, hollow smile of before. this one is soft and hopelessly earnest.

he could've seen the message and her urgency coming, just glad he isn't attached to that madman anymore so he can be honest with her. frank gestures to the spot next to him if she wants to sit and digs his device out of his jumpsuit pocket at long last. ] hey, sweetheart. what's on your mind?

House Delivery - 02/21

(One day when Frank comes in or out of his home, he will find a potted aloe plant sitting directly in front of his front door. Far away enough that it shouldn't be accidentally stepped on.

There's a thin string wrapped around the pot and attached to it is a note that's been folded up. On the outside of the note is a crudely drawn hotdog.

Inside the note reads:

Thank you for the beds. This plant is nice to have around a house. If you cut a leaf, it'll have some gooey gel inside that's good for burns (not the super bad kind though- the super bad kind needs serious doctor medicine) itching, frostbite, cold sore, rashes, and can help with fevers and stomach ulcers.

Can also be used to make your hair nice and soft :)

Plant needs partial sun.
water 2-3 weeks. less in the winter. make sure soil is dry about 1-2 in. in before watering so you dont rot it

[She's not sure why she's so upset, really. She barely knows the guy, and he's alive again, somehow. Because this place is some kind of weird monster world that brings you back to life after its monsters brutally (she assumes anyway) kill you.

She's at his house at the moment mostly because she wants to see with her own eyes that he's okay and not broken into pieces or something. It's not like she can tell through the stupid device. So she pulls out said stupid device and types out a very brief, pointed message.]

[ oh THANK GOD. someone is giving him something to do. the soundproofing is about 98% complete on this stupid house and he needs to step away from it anyway. somehow he has three jobs, goes to all of them religiously, stages fights, goes out to gather supplies, casually stalks his friends and STILL has too much time to think. he's officially over this silent thing, no matter what he tells people. ]

[The “prison” —currently a fabulous shopping center undergoing renovation— isn’t the hardest thing to find not even counting the limited viable areas of operation and the fact he has a mobile surveillance system. Still he’s not completely World Police off the handle in this; he takes the time to set up a few measures before he walks over. Drones rigged with explosives, a primed and waiting for his signal distraction for the Sound Eaters. F.R.I.D.A.Y. ready and his own tech from his Earth. Probably overdoing it a bit, but if he’s going to do anything might as well do it thoroughly the first time around.

So anyway ig this is him walking into the building and confronting Frank in some location.]

Shut it down, Castle.

[He doesn’t even have to bring out his device to text. Subvocalizing to F.R.I.D.A.Y. is all it takes for her to send the message. How he went a month without her and didn’t go crazy is a question for the ages.]

[ so jess went out for... milk. or went back to the clinic for more soundproofing most likely. frank is working because this whole fucking thing is stressing him out. he doesn't even believe in government, not after what happened to him and so many other soldiers. so of course these idiots would elect him. and now he's got a tail from home trying to blow up the only project that could keep them all safe.

yeah, he's pretty grumpy about it. he's strapping some drywall to the back of a store cubby when tony finds him, and it's the light on his screen that alerts him to his presence. thinking it's jess, he doesn't turn around right away, finishing his task and then slowly turning to face the other man. o-oh hey bro. he thought he would be angry, but when he sees tony and reads the words he feels vaguely queasy instead. go figure. ]

shut what down? [ this guy doesn't know him any more than frank knows tony. he thought it was brave, the way he'd flown into that portal with a nuke. and to shut down his weapons manufacture in general. he knows this guy respects the military so before he'd met him? frank actually had some respect. he hopes he wasn't wrong about him after all.

his back straightens, ramrod even, but he doesn't look down on tony despite their height differential. he weighs him with his gaze and waits for whatever lecture he's about to get. there's no sign that he's about to make this hostile, at least, not to start. ]

[ Poe never really knew when to stop moving. He's at least feeling less fidgety while taking additional signing practices from the native woman both him and Frank know. When he tells people he'll help with a job, he'll come and not back out of his word. He's told Jessica already that he would put in man power for it. Frank seemed to want to help to finish getting it ready. Having one around wasn't a bad idea, it may ease minds, hopefully it won't generate panic or fear. Setting up a system for it though would take some time. Unless plans were already in works.

There's a small pack over his shoulder, he's carrying a bit of soundproof supplies from the clinic. Since he was cleaning there before coming to the Prison building. Poe would be cautious looking around in case there were more people working. He didn't want to get hit with anything. He's keeping a look out for Frank too. Once he spots him, he comes over to him with the supplies. He signs. ] Where do you want these?

[ it's only frank now, and he catches that flight suit out of the corner of his eye, turning to face poe properly. his gaze is a little rough and unfocused, but he manages to look from poe's hands to the supplies and understand what it is he's supposed to be doing. frank waves him on to the next storefront and points for poe to set them at the entrance. ] Thanks, brother.

[ there's been something tense in the house ever since the mayor fiasco but david's never been that great at bringing things up first, so he doesn't. instead, he goes to find frank once it starts raining, carrying two little tins in both hands and offering one to frank. coffee, while his is tea; just like he's always done in their shitty safe house. ]

Help me with something?

[ it's weird to talk after letting his voice go unused for so long, raspy and harsh in his throat. but it's pouring outside and there's some relief in that too -- letting the rain ease some of the worry that he always tends to pile onto his shoulders. ]

[ frank has been tense with everyone since that shit so it honestly doesn't even register to him. he and david are brothers, so even if he isn't 100% proud of how he acted it's easy to move on. and when there's coffee in it for him, even moreso. he takes the tin from david, their fingers brushing as he nods, silent without meaning to be. it's partially habit and partially just who frank is, not mincing words when he doesn't need to. his hood is drawn up over his face, hiding his expression somewhat as he takes a long appreciative drink. ]

[ she thinks, perhaps, that she should have mentioned that she and mike don't really look alike, or that her jumpsuit is an off-red that matches the scrunchie in her hair (the only thing from home she has with her, incidentally), but it's not bustling at frank's house, even though he's the mayor, so — it's fine. she'll just school her features into neutrality and wait for him to message back or let her in. her mother did raise her to be polite, if nothing else. ]

[ frank is up like a shot and opening the front door which leads up through a wide, flat porch. a brown pitbull edges around his leg to peep their company and frank waves out at her. he's dressed in a black jumpsuit with black combat boots and a black beanie. bro has a palette going too so he's not about to judge her scrunchie.

he steps aside so she can come in. his house with micro is still a work in progress since they only got it at the beginning of the month. there's the beginnings of soundproofing up in the kitchen and the house itself is a big, cavernous echochamber of a place. max the dog predictably wants to be greeted first, and frank has absolutely no qualms about that, even as he tries to slouch a little and make himself appear less intimidating. ]
