[She's not sure why she's so upset, really. She barely knows the guy, and he's alive again, somehow. Because this place is some kind of weird monster world that brings you back to life after its monsters brutally (she assumes anyway) kill you.

    But Max is upset.

She's at his house at the moment mostly because she wants to see with her own eyes that he's okay and not broken into pieces or something. It's not like she can tell through the stupid device. So she pulls out said stupid device and types out a very brief, pointed message.]

    I'm outside.
    beyourzoomer: (poker face)

[Apologies aren't something she's used to getting from anyone. Especially not an adult. Especially not an adult man. She looks back at him, shrugging a little. He looks okay enough, she supposes.]

    Sound eater?

[She signs it - it's one of the few signs she's picked up so far.]
    beyourzoomer: (uncertainty)

[When he makes the OK sign again, she squints, staring at him hard and trying to decide if she believes him or not. He's up walking around, he looks okay. She's still trying to come to terms with the idea that when people die here, they come back. It doesn't make any sense to her. What's bringing people back to life? For what purpose?

It's not that she's not glad, because she is, but she's also wary about the whole thing. As wary as she is about this place in general.

She finally nods, and pulls her device back out.]

    but you forgot things
    beyourzoomer: (worried glance)

[She watches him move to sit and she hesitates before sitting on the other one, more so she can see him easier, and less because she's uncomfortable sitting too close. She's still trying to decide if his color is normal or if he's a little paler than usual.]

so no other side effects besides memory loss?

[Her eyebrows are furrowed as she studies him carefully.]
    beyourzoomer: (not liking it)

    [personal profile] beyourzoomer 2018-03-02 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[It is a much smaller bruise than she's used to seeing him with and she presses her lips together.]

why do you like getting hit so much? are you a masochist or something?

[Because she's sure she's never met anyone who's so okay with constantly having bruises all over them.]

[Max watches as he struggles not to laugh at her question. She rolls her eyes, folding her arms across her chest.]

    i read a lot.

[She considers his answer, looking both troubled and thoughtful.]

have you found them, then? your limits?
beyourzoomer: (hurt expression to the side)

[She's not offended, really. Most of her friends are 12 or 13 year old boys so she's pretty used to this.]

yeah, a couple times. what do you like to read?

[She can tell it's a more difficult question by the look on his face and she sighs inaudibly, growing more worried than she already was.]

you were supposed to say yes. since you died.

    fiction. mostly suspense. sometimes fantasy.
    helps me escape

[She isn't sure how anyone can be okay with dying and suddenly being alive again. She's sure she wouldn't be. But. That last part of what he says is what gets her.]

yeah well i'm pretty glad about that.

[She's not good with emotions, so that's about as close as she'll probably get at this point to telling him please don't die again.]
    beyourzoomer: (sad to the side)

[She notices, when he doesn't look at her. She knows what it means, and she doesn't like it, but when has that ever really mattered? Max rises to her feet, hesitating momentarily and then reaching out and letting her hand rest on his shoulder for a brief moment.]

    i'm glad you're all right.

[Max gives him the barest hint of a smile before turning to head for the door.]
