[ and he means that sincerely. mike is a good kid. no man left behind, right? eleven is better off anywhere but in this place, he knows the sound eaters don't have her. but he can't caution mike away from kilgrave now, the man's orders filling his head now. act normal, don't raise suspicion. don't get caught. don't plot against me. be polite with me... which is how mike ends up with a message that's much more neutral than the boy ever might be used to frank being where kilgrave is concerned. ]

No. I dunno. Not usually. But someone on the network said he could have a point.

What do we do? [ Tell him what to do, Frank. Or he'll just sit and cry. ]

he doesn't. don't listen to kilgrave.

i could look with you again, but i think she's back home. it seems like that's how it works.

[ Mike doesn't know whether to feel better or worse because there are monsters in both places, in human and non-human form. ]

You really think so? Why her?

i don't know, mike. no one knows why any of us come or go.

I know we're not scheduled for fight club today but I'm coming later.

[ his belly flutters with panic, but he can't say no. that would be abnormal and it goes against his orders. he wants to do as kilgrave says. and he wants to be there for mike. the two coincide in an ugly way. ] i'll be here

[ When Mike arrives, letting himself in because Frank is home and expecting him, Mike barely acknowledges him, not out of spite or anything but he feels like if he meets Frank's eyes, he's going to break. So with a steely look on his face, he strides over to one of the dummies in the room and proceeds to aim some hard punches at it. Over and over until he's gasping for breath.

There's too many things he's mad about at the moment. El gone. Max here instead. Hopper here too and pissing him off. Will here which was probably his fault for jinxing it by talking about it with Frank. If anything happened to Will here...

PunchpunchPUNCH. ]

[ frank watches him stride in from where he's sitting on one of the mats. mike doesn't look at him, but he tracks mike's every move. when he starts hitting the dummy, he springs to his feet and goes over, not to stop him; but to make sure he doesn't hurt himself.

he picks up hand wraps and holds them in front of mike's face. remember the rules. his expression is very stern and dadlike at the moment, when really all he wants to do is wrap mike in a hug and tell him everything's going to be okay. even if that's the last thing he can promise anyone here. ]

[ The rules? The rules don't apply right now. He wants to feel every punch hit his knuckles. He wants to feel physical pain and focus on that compared to the emotional pain he's feeling from everything else. He puts his hand over Frank's and moves it aside - or tries to, at least. No, he expresses with his eyes, before going back to punching the dummy, hitting below Frank's hand if it's still in the way. ]

[ worth a shot. frank curls his fingers around the wraps when mike bats his hand away and crouches down, waiting patiently for the boy to wear himself out. his expression is open and sad -- for el and for mike. and for the fact that he really doesn't know what to do to help right now. ]

[ This is why he likes Frank, because he understands, or at least tries to. He doesn't stop Mike from getting the release he needs. He lets Mike get it out of his system, hitting his fists against the dummy until his hands feel sore and red. Once he's done, he hangs his head, resting it against the dummy and just breathes. ]

[oorah]

[ he drops the cotton in his hand, observing to see if mike is really done. when it seems he is, frank rests a heavy hand on the boy's shoulder. ]

[ Mike doesn't move at first, but his shoulders start to shake and Frank should be able to guess what's happening. He turns around and hides his face into Frank's chest, tears rolling down his cheeks, quietly sniffling against Frank's shirt. He needs this as much as he needed to hit the dummy, an anchor to hold on to. ]

[ frank doesn't hesitate, wrapping a strong arm around both of mike's shoulders and holding on tight. his other hand rubs his back soothingly. he lets go of tiny, barely-audible shushing noises, shutting his eyes as he wills his own tears to remain at bay. ]
