[ that's his first clue that she has no idea what she's doing. frank tosses her handwraps, putting on his own at the same time. if he goes a little slowly so she can watch what he's doing, well. he'll deny it later. ]

[bossily]

[Regardless of if she thinks he's going slowly for her benefit, she watches him closely. She's always been big on learning through observing and doing, and she's able to figure out how to put hers on with only a little fumbling.

When they've both got their handwraps on she flexes her hands and glances his way, curious. Did she do it right?]

[ frank nods his approval and moves to take off his boots, then ducks under the rope to wait for her in the ring. he's already nervous, pretty sure clara doesn't have superpowers but he'd been wrong about that before. he still has some lingering bruises from fighting valkyrie, but as usual he looks no worse for wear. he bounces a little on the balls of his feet as he waits for her to get situated. ]

[Little does he know that she fully plans on just copying him at first. She figures this is something that can be easily figured out by observing and acting on instinct. Unfortunately for the both of them, her instinct makes her a scrapper, and as she bounces on the balls of her feet she starts things off early by attempting to take a swing.]

[ he's starting to get that as she keeps her eyes on him. but he doesn't make a move yet, watching her back. when she strikes out, he could easily dodge or block, but he doesn't, letting it hit in the soft part of his side so he can gauge what kind of strength he's dealing with. it's about as much as her size and stature would suggest, aka, he could end this in two seconds if he really wanted to. he doesn't, so he smiles, feigning a hit to the left while a blow comes for her right abdomen instead. it's pulled, just a glancing hit if it connects. but it's obvious there's power behind his hands even so. ]

[She can hit hard when she wants to, but she's not really trying to hurt him right now. So she ends up making her hand feel a little sting of pain when it collides with his side, but she doesn't let the sting show beyond slightly widened eyes. When he strikes at her abdomen however, it takes her by surprise.

Somehow she didn't exactly think through the whole getting hit back part. It doesn't hurt her, but it sure as hell surprises her. She winds up hopping back, and looks at her balled up fist and then up to his face. Almost as if she's trying to judge how easy it is to get him in the nose.]

[ he sees that look, following it back to her fist. it's a close thing not to laugh, but instead, he reaches out and helps her form a better fist, tucking her thumb so she won't hurt herself. well, she still would if she tried to hit his face. his head is hard. frank pulls away quickly like he hadn't just done that and swaps easily into a defensive stance. it's more interesting for him to see if she's got any moves than to try to get hits in of his own, anyway. ]

[She needs help forming that fist, since her primary method of hitting has been a slap up until this point. So she takes a second to see how he tucks her thumb and helps position her hand, and gives a little nod of understanding. All of the fighting she's done so far has been with aliens and monsters. This is really the first time she's faced down another person with the intent to try and beat them up. It causes her to hesitate for a moment before she sucks it up and moves in again, deciding to take aim at his stomach instead of his face. She really doesn't want to break her hand or bust up his face.

His defensive stance is something that she isn't really accounting for, and since she wants to try and force him to drop it she also tries bringing her foot forward to lightly kick against his knee.]
