History: Here.
Personality: We see many different sides of Frank throughout Daredevil Season 2 & the debut season of his own series. In Daredevil he's unhinged and desperate. He's just lost his family and he's determined to cut a warpath through the city, hellbent on destroying anyone who had any involvement in their deaths. None of his actions are truly premeditated, he flies by the seat of his pants the whole way and seems to expect to go down in flaming glory. However, when that doesn't happen, Frank has to reevaluate himself and his mission. In Punisher Season 1 he is much more calculating and deliberate. He still can definitely be impulsive, and adaptable to a fault, but it seems much more controlled. There's a distance put between himself and his tragedy now that allows him to think more clearly and make more informed decisions.

Frank hints at a time before the military; and that he always had a darkness inside of him. The Marine Corps was merely a safe and productive means to channel him through. So when he finds out his life's work was a lie, he steadily begins his descent into madness. Though he fights it the whole way, when Nelson & Murdock take his case and attempt to utilize a PTSD defense for him. He thinks it's offensive to people who really have PTSD, soldiers who come back from war unable to cope with peace times at all. He goes into detail later on, saying that it wasn't difficult for him to bury his buddies. That was all part of the ride to him. He is extremely vicious and effective when he has a specific target and will stop at nothing to neutralize it, resourceful to a fault as he pulls on his surroundings to keep himself alive. Throughout both shows, we witness him take men out with his bare hands, knives, guns, and any potential weapon he can get his hands on. Perhaps the most indicative of his skill is the scene in Daredevil where he takes out ten men in seven minutes on his own and virtually unarmed ("Seven Minutes in Heaven.") Nothing can slow him down when he's on the warpath, which makes him nearly unstoppable when he sets his sights on something.

Curtis Hoyle, who runs a support group for veterans that Frank likes to eavesdrop on, proves to the viewer that Frank wasn’t being wholly honest there. The man served with him for a time overseas while Frank's record was still on-the-books and he was there when Curt lost his leg. An accident Frank blames himself for. So when a homegrown Veteran terrorist with PTSD threatens Curt's life, Frank will stop at nothing to save him (and he does.) Curtis, just like Billy, is a brother to him and someone he would do anything for. For as much as he claims to be this unfeeling monster, we see time and time again that that isn’t true - like when he risked life and limb to save his CO in Afghanistan. Frank is self-sacrificing and regards other’s lives as much more than his own, especially other soldiers/veterans. Though he was awarded the Navy Cross for his efforts, he doesn’t feel worthy to sit next to other veterans in group or be compared with them like in his trial.

The conspiracy rabbit hole that massacred his wife and two young children at first seems never-ending, but as the series starts to unravel the mystery we see more of Frank Castle the man and less of the cold-blooded killer. Through his relationship with new partner Micro, we see the family man he was become reconciled more and more with the assassin he was for the CIA. He was with a black ops team called the Cerberus Squad ran by a man known as nothing else but 'Agent Orange.' Frank believes he is taking out high-level terrorists for the US government and pours his heart and soul into his work, but as the truth comes out he realizes he was little more than the barrel of a gun for his Commander.

Frank Castle is fiercely loyal and when he loves, he loves with his whole heart. The boys in his unit and his family are two relationships he claims to care for equally, often in flashbacks with his wife appearing to have trouble when he's home. He doesn't feel truly himself without a mission, orders and war on the horizon. We see him struggle with his own identity over and over again, as the work he did for the government slowly unravels and reveals itself to be much more sinister than anyone could have anticipated. He feels betrayal just as sharply if not more so than his own all-encompassing loyalty. Because these men were all his brothers, any small trespass against him is received tenfold. So when his true brother Billy Russo is revealed to be the villain of the story, perhaps to an even greater extreme than the ruthless man who commanded their top-secret unit, Frank is gutted. Bill was an uncle to his children and someone he trusted implicitly even when his whole world came apart.

It still isn't clear whether or not Frank has a true psychopathy or not being that he clearly feels love outside of himself and can express it in multiple ways. He has many close relationships with people throughout both series, despite constantly claiming not to care about anyone else. Frank desperately needs other's support in order to function and the longer he is left to his own devices the more he spirals out. As a military man and a father/husband both he craves structure and routine; going out of his way to find it even though now his life is in shambles.

Throughout the series, Frank has dreams about the day his family was murdered. In Daredevil we only got a small snippet of it: One Batch Two Patch Penny and Dime. Here I come, here I come... Which he explains to Daredevil was a quote from his daughter Lisa's favorite book. She wanted him to read it to her the night he got home from Kandahar, but he was too tired, promising her he would read it tomorrow; and by the next night she was dead. We know they were killed in Central Park by the carousel, caught in the crosshairs of a gang shootout. Or so it was supposed to seem. We also know that he blames himself. Frank wakes up every night after a similar sequence of Maria waking him up late on the morning of the massacre. It's hazy and relaxed, the tone is idealistic and sweet. The nightmare always ends the same way, with masked men gunning down his family. But as the show progresses and we learn more about what happened that day, the dreams become more realistic, the strained relationship between Maria and Frank coming to the fore instead of the romanticized version when he's still in the beginning stages of hunting her killer. He jerks away from her when she wakes him up, thinking he's still in Afghanistan, and she shrinks away from him in turn. She tells him it's like he leaves another piece of himself there every time he comes home and he struggles to tell her he wants to stay.

During the final showdown between Frank and Agent Orange, he sees Maria again. He sees them making love, he sees them dancing at their wedding. But at the end of it all, when he's close to death after being tortured and he's bleeding out; Maria comes to him in his mind, beckoning him home. Frank actively chooses to stay alive, he lets his hand slip from hers and he fights for his life. Presumably, because he has people like David Lieberman and his family, Special Agent Dinah Madani, and Karen Page waiting for him. They care about him as much as he does them, and on some level, Frank knows it isn't his time to go. The series wraps with him blowing off the Liebermans for holiday dinner/gathering and this is when he comes to find himself on the space station, Reverie Terminal.

Abilities: Frank is a normal human in top physical condition, though his musculature has decreased somewhat as a result of spending 5 months in space. He will have an adjustment period back to regular gravity and natural air at first. He is a brilliant strategist and proficient fighter as well as an expert in military grade weapons of all kinds. He’s also really, really good with dogs.
Flaws: Frank has many flaws. First and foremost, he is a murderer who carried out a seriously violent revenge fantasy to avenge his family. Before he was the Punisher, however, he confesses he was already predisposed towards violence and chaos and that’s the reason he cites for joining the Marines. He enjoys inflicting pain on those he considers “bad” and therefore torture doesn't faze him. He believes that evil is irredeemable and should be punishable by death rather than a prison sentence. All of this is hypocritical of course, which is perhaps his largest flaw. He applies different standards to himself than others and can be very selfish in his motivations. When it comes to those closest to him, he will hurt, maim and kill to protect them, but he has absolutely 0 self-preservation. He needs to be involved in a fight to feel alive and though he is attempting a “normal” life, he admits himself that being without a war is the most scared he’s ever been.

    CR AU
Previous Game and Time: Reverie Terminal, April 2018-September 2018.
Previous Development: Frank was in game from the beginning of this game and saw many disturbing things from the get-go. People were poisoned with the food replicators, metal tubing was found under people’s skin and others, and others (including Karen) fell into walls and doors. Frank and Wanda were tasked with getting Karen out of the door and they both came away with injuries, Frank with a permanent scar across his left palm. That incident scarred him in more ways than one, as it made him feel truly helpless and clued him into how serious things were on the Station. From there, they lost gravity after being laughed at by everyone and their brother for saying his dog needed mag-boots. Once the spin was restored, he enlisted a space engineer to help him construct the boots and went on to teach Max how to use the technology at his command. Next, the station tortured its residents by blaring pop music for a week straight. However, during this time Frank was subjected to his own personal torment of losing his sense of hearing. Spared from the noise, he was able to keep more of his wits about him than others and saw firsthand what the Station was turning everyone into. The Station wasn’t done with him once the music was cut off, however, his deafness persisted and he also lost completely his sense of touch. This made him reliant on his friends to do every basic task and dehumanized him by stripping him of independence. This also forced his relationship with Karen Page even closer and they came to be in a romantic relationship at or around this time. (NSFW-ish:) When his touch returned, Frank and Karen attempted to sleep together, but the Station still wasn’t through with its torture. He experienced extreme pain from even the lightest touch and they had to stop, and from then on have never tried to have sex again. In August, illnesses like these befell everyone and it was proposed to Frank in theory that he could have been the first “guinea pig.” Karen was infected with a virus that targeted her blood and put her through intense pain and Frank, once again, lost sensation. Through all the personal torture and observing people he cares about get hurt over and over, he has been worn down but hasn’t lost hope. He is often the optimistic voice among his CR that insists they have to keep fighting to find a way out and return everyone home.

Other than Karen, his most significant CRs are of course, Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios, his castmates. He comes to trust Elektra above perhaps anyone else and they often spar to relieve tension. Matt and himself are still at odds, but underneath it he feels a kinship to him and an urge to protect him from the horrors of the Station. As the newest arrived, Matt still doesn’t fully appreciate the scope of how much danger they’re in, or so it seems to Frank. However, he saved Matt’s life when he first arrived and routinely checks on him to ensure he’s doing alright, or at least as well as can be expected. His next door neighbor is Kamala Khan and he vowed to protect her on Day One. They have a very close, nearly familial relationship and he was the first one Kamala told about her secret identity as Ms. Marvel. Frank has subsequently told her his entire sordid history as well. No one other than this core group knows he is the Punisher as he goes by “Frank Castiglione” on board and that’s what his uniform says.

Though he never wanted it again, the Station has instilled in him a sense of community and reprisal of leadership that he thought he left behind in Afghanistan. Frank cares about everyone on board to some degree, though of course his priorities are Karen, Matt, Elektra and Kamala. Others he had very close CR with were: Alex Kamal (The Expanse), Clary Fairchild (Shadowhunters), Raleigh Beckett (Pacific Rim), Mike Slattery (The Last Ship), Midnighter & Apollo (Wildstorm Comics) as well as recognition of a slew of other characters. As per game rules, Frank will not recognize any of these characters IG unless I have permission from their players OOCly.

Frank feels a responsibility for every single person aboard Reverie Terminal, both in physical safety and their state of mind. He has taken to offering haircuts and personal training as a means to boost morale and help others maintain normal routines. Amos Burton from the Expanse is someone he had strange CR with, but he taught Frank a lot about what he knows now of space, and he came to pass that information down to new arrivals who were unfamiliar with space travel. He’s become almost desperate for returning to New York, to the point that coming to a different place will tear him apart. At first he will be enraged and following that will probably enter a period of depression. It will be more difficult for him to form relationships with people here the second time around since at first, it will feel fruitless. Frank is, above all else, a survivor and it won’t take him long to break out of his funk if he is needed. I anticipate this setting being very challenging for him, but also more fulfilling as he will have more to do day-to-day and he is a man who thrives on the minutia of routine.
