HISTORY

Canon history: Here.

TQP History:
  • Frank arrives in Reims and tells everyone to call him Hotdog (because franks IT’S A PUN PEOPLE but they take him seriously rip that’s now his legal name.)
  • Then he witnesses Jessica Jones murder Kilgrave.
  • And builds “Fight Club” in his garage room #priorities
  • Frank and Jessica save Faith from Kilgrave’s influence (which makes Frank his target.)
  • The Natives take everyone to see the Sound Eaters but on the way there Frank and Poe deliver two twin baby boys! This is what first starts to drive Frank’s investment in the Natives.
  • He starts dadding every kid in town and gets a big ol’ lecture from Jess.
  • Micro arrives in Reims and he and Frank immediately pick up where they left off brodependence wise & they cook everyone HOT DOGS.
  • Frank gets himself killed by a Kilgraved minion and subsequently Kilgraved himself.
  • Kilgrave tells Frank to get his friends to meet him so he can mind whammy them all, but he’s intercepted by Micro who tells Jessica. Gleaning Kilgrave’s location from fucked up Frank, she goes and kills him a second time (yay!)
  • Jessica who has been working on a Kilgrave vaccine in secret tests it on Frank with the help of convenient nurses Claire & Dorothy.
  • At some point in here Frank gets Max the dog back and has Hawkeye (from M*A*S*H not the useless archer one) do a debarking surgery on him.
  • Frank joins patrol and runs into Jessica one night and draws the conclusion that she’s been on patrol in secret for some time. Shortly thereafter she starts to repurpose an old shopping mall into a prison with his help (like she had a choice.)
  • The natives announce they’re opening up a vote to the Arrivals for a new leader and Frank is nominated for some unfathomable reason and even more unlikely, he wins against a giant robotic German Shepherd.
  • Succumbing to the pressures of being Mayor, Frank goes to the prison to get wasted with Jess and falls asleep on her like a totally together Adult.
  • They test his immunity against Kilgrave and surprise, it works!
  • Micro and Frank develop an app for the devices with all the knowledge icly acquired thus far.
  • Frank takes all the kids on a camping trip to see the Sound Eaters and also to do boy scouts shit.
  • Everyone makes it back from the trip and Dorothy, Micro and Trish all get immunized.
  • Frank brings Jess back a snowglobe at her behest (idk) which somehow spirals into makeouts. At this point Frank realizes he had feelings for Jessica all along which (???) dumbass.
  • The game was imploding around this time but nebulously at some point later Jessica and Frank decide to take a “vacation” into the woods on a rainy weekend and that’s when they finally confess feelings for one another (sorta, whatever.)
  • Jess wants to stay out there forever but Frank needs to go back to “his people” and reprise his mayoral role - they split up here and don’t see one another again because shortly thereafter they are sent back home to New York.
  • Frank reconnects with Kamala and Micro while home - this is literally just so he knows they’re all okay and he can leave Max with the Liebermans to free him up for not being a ball of stress about his kids and his dog in 6i.

    TQP CR:
To save you guys (and me) the grief I’m gonna break this up into sections because he knew so many people. And if any of these characters are in game or app in I will ask before assuming Frank would recognize them etc.!

  • nemesis - kilgrave (jessica jones)
Frank would do anything to see this guy put down for good. It’s a big relief when he goes home to a post Kilgrave New York. I even had this slick comment of all the things Frank ever said about him.

  • secret girlfriend - jessica jones (jessica jones)
He cultivates feelings for Jess over the four months they’re in Reims though he’s clueless about it until the very end. She says jump, he’s already over the bridge before she can tell him how high. I had a similar comment of nice things he’s said about/to her.

  • brother from another mother - david “micro” lieberman (the punisher)
Micro as he’s known in Reims (or occasionally “Microwave”) is obviously Frank’s closest overall CR in canon as well as CRAU wise. They come to rely on each other even more in TQP than at home and take on a coparenting role with all the children here. Tetora even calls David “Mom” and Frank “Dad.”

  • kiddos - mike wheeler, eleven, will byers, max mayfield, nancy wheeler, steve harrington (stranger things), kamala khan, billy kaplan (marvel 616), tetora nishizono (mpd psycho), chloe price (life is strange), rey (star wars), ellie (last of us), bill denbrough, beverly marsh, eddie kaspbrak, richie tozier (it), nill (dogs) and many more tbh
Everyone under the age of 21 or so was babied by this man. He got them beds/furniture, soundproofed their houses, and kept close watch over every one of them. His closest personal relationships were with Mike (who he started Fight Club with) and Kamala who lived with him in communal housing when she first arrived (before he was moved to the big mayor compound with David.) He told both of them almost his entire life story and received a similar amount of info in exchange. After he was Kilgraved, he confesses everything to Kamala and from that point on they’re near inseparable. Mike is still the kid he worries about the most after leaving TQP because he knows his parents don’t support him. He hopes that Nancy and he will stick together. He was also known for commissioning custom jumpsuits and cloth shoes/hats from his native friend who he helped with her twins and he gave them out to the kids every so often. IDK basically if any of them had a need he would be there to teach them or get them whatever it was. Of note was finding anxiety meds for Tetora and arguing with the Natives so Ellie could keep her clothes when she first arrived.

  • adults he has a familial relationship with - poe dameron (star wars), faith lehane, (buffy the vampire slayer), dorothy gale (emerald city), elektra natchios, luke cage, trish walker (netflix mcu), logan howlett (xmcu), clara oswald (dr. who), friday settman (what happened to monday), bethany goodrich (oc), hawkeye pierce (m*a*s*h)
These are the adults he feels “responsible” for. Friday was the first person he bonded with in TQP and even though she was only there for a month he still thinks of her daily. He found her a laptop that he later gifted to Micro when she disappeared. Poe and Faith have been by his side for the Kilgrave drama from the beginning and they all have each other’s backs - then Faith came to work for him as an instructor later at Fight Club (it’s called that but really more of a dojo.) Elektra, Luke and Logan he experienced shared dream experiences with when they first arrived which formed an urge to stay close to and protect them all. Luke because of his experience with Kilgrave, he immediately petitioned for him receiving the vaccine. Elektra and Logan because they’ve been through Hell like him just in more spooky ways tbh, they came to live with the kids when the “kid mansion” was built so Frank trusts them both implicitly. Hawkeye he would do anything for even if he is an ARMY BOY, they were working together to fix up the hospital when things started to wind down in game, and of course Hawkeye saved his dog which puts Frank forever in his debt. Without Dorothy the vaccine would never have been created or refined successfully and he regards her like a sister (Toto and Max are besties too.) Bethany is a little demon girl who lived under his porch in communal housing (yep) and they would sit there together and people watch for hours, she gave him a woven leather bracelet when he became mayor with celtic knots that mean leadership. Clara came along later, but she was also big on helping him take care of the kids. He fell asleep on her once, too. And then there’s Trish whom he feels a strong attachment to because of his close relationship with Jessica. He would do anything to make sure she was safe, but he also has a great deal of respect for her and is a low-key fan.

ones that don’t fit anywhere else - buffy summers (buffy the vampire slayer), claire temple (netflix mcu), diana prince (wonder woman), natasha romanoff, wanda maximoff, valkyrie (mcu), vash the stampede (trigun), etc. literally he knew everyone in game rip
Buffy, Diana and Valk came to work for him at FC as well and he respects them all as fighters and amazing women etc. Buffy and he were also on patrol together and Valk and him got hammered together a lot. Claire he made out with once because of some weird native roofie shit, but she also helped him with the vaccine then subsequently vanished. He still holds awkward feelings but also extreme gratitude for her. Nat taught him how to knit! And they have similar moral codes so they got along good. Wanda and he also kept eyes on the kids together and coordinated efforts between adults especially towards the end. He shaved Vash’s face once?! Don’t ask but they were good buds ok.

contentious/uneasy relationships - matt murdock (daredevil), tony stark (mcu), erik lehnsherr (xmcu)
Matt is someone he knows from home and they already have a rough history, but in Reims he took to watching him from afar and making sure he didn’t get in trouble. He stalked him is what I’m getting at here and it didn’t always go over so well. When Frank became mayor, two voices came to the fore about it. Erik was very vocal in his disapproval and accused Frank of not caring about/shutting out the Natives. Tony took it to a whole other extreme, threatening to blow up Jessica’s prison which he believed to be run by “The Punisher” who was also their rightfully elected mayor so, yeah. I would never have him recognize Erik and Tony in game unless those players specifically wanted negative CR with me!

What is your canon exit point?: Post Punisher S1 + 4 months of CR from The Quiet Place

  • PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

What skills does your character bring to the situation?
Frank is a highly trained, finely tuned killing machine. Which probably isn’t all that useful here. He was also the mayor of a creepy silent film though and while there he found a new purpose in keeping everyone safe from Kilgrave and the Sound Eaters. He became the go-to person for anything and everything that needed to get done. If he couldn't personally do something, he knew the person to call on and he made it happen. Because of the mechanics of that game as well, Frank’s tendency to be stoic and non verbose has been taken to an extreme. He no longer has violent outbursts or launches into personal diatribes, keeping mostly to five words or less if he can’t convey himself with a shrug or OK symbol (his two most frequently used tactics in Reims.) He also is fluent in the Native sign language which of course no one will know here, but it’s an amalgamation of FSL & BSL/ASL in addition to some intuitive gesturing so anyone who might know sign language might be able to understand him well enough were he to utilize this. For longer correspondence he will turn to his device as has become habit, preferring to text like a millennial while in the same room. But he texts like an old man actually. Frank is someone who adapts quickly to his surroundings and makes needed adjustments as he goes. In Reims he became moderately adept at farming small herbs and vegetables (and coffee) and strengthened his outdoors skills by teaching them to others - camping, hunting, gathering etc. He is also brilliantly mediocre on the acoustic guitar and dogs love him.

Why did you choose this specific character for 6I, and how do you picture them fitting into the game?
The psychological aspects are what drew me to wanting to play Frank here. He already struggles with his own psyche in canon but after having Kilgrave and other mental manipulators in his head as well as encountering telepathy and shared dreams he will be more open to exploring these avenues. By the same token, it will also freak him out way more because of what he’s been through. When needed, he will draw on whatever is necessary to get him through, including added powers or skills that might fundamentally unnerve him. This will most likely be a constant struggle with Frank in this setting as he tries to navigate being in another horror town that wants to exploit his deepset fragility. Because for all of his posturing and inherent violence, Frank is a soft and caring man who is highly emotional and easily influenced by his surroundings. I think this will make for a deeply interesting exploration of human responses to repetitive torment, specifically a systematic dismantling of mental defenses.

How do you imagine your character will survive in 6I, and in what ways will they contribute to the settlement, if any?
Frank Castle is a survivalist to a fault and no matter how much he tells himself he doesn’t care about the people around him, he’ll do everything in his power to make sure they survive too. He just came from a situation where literally hundreds of people depended on him for basic needs so anything less than that will feel like a walk in the park. Here he will be reluctant to make as many personal connections at first and certainly not want to take on a supreme leadership role like the one he’s just abandoned, but his personality type is such that he will always overload himself if it’s to the benefit of those around him. So at first he would be vaguely useless in networking matters, but things he could do himself he’d be hard pressed to refuse if asked for help directly. He’ll avoid people for a while but his curiosity and loneliness always eventually wins out and right on its coattails will be his primordial need to protect and care for others, even strangers. I’ve detailed his most significant CR but he cared deeply about everyone in Reims, often to the chagrin of Jessica and Micro. He couldn’t shut off the squad leader and dad mentalities and it ultimately made everyone reliant on him; which was an overwhelming burden to bear but one that he never thought of shirking.

How will your character react to...

Being separated, possibly permanently, from loved ones and their previous life, including loss of powers, if applicable?
Because he’s been down this road before, maybe it will be easier for him than other fresh arrivals in some ways, especially after returning home long enough to see his friends resettled. He tends to think people are better off without him so before he recognizes anyone he may initially feel relief more than anything. Also after returning home from Reims, he’ll know it’s possible to return from this place and it won’t be difficult for him to keep positivity going in that capacity. Though he seems like a brooding sort, he is actually fairly optimistic and when he sets his mind to something he doesn’t account for failure. This blatant refusal to acknowledge the possibility that he won’t accomplish what he needs to has only served him well in the past, though it faltered for a while in Reims (mostly via Kilgrave and that whole situation.)

Their environment being manipulated, possibly in strange or extraordinary ways, and possibly in ways which restrain them?
This won’t bode well with him, but after seeing truly out there stuff it won’t break his brain as much as it once would have. That said, Frank Castle is someone who vehemently hates being restricted unless it’s on his own terms. He is seen in canon getting himself captured or manipulating his captors from an interrogation seat. It’s often when he’s at his most vulnerable that he’s also at his most dangerous. Because of this, he will be in survival mode once he catches up to his predicament. He saw wild things while in Reims to the point where even extreme manipulations will be met with nearly instant acceptance from him. He won’t question his own sanity but merely look for the source - Reims was covered in red dust that had strange and inconsistent effects. This is what allowed him to walk into others’ dreams, but it also caused many a psychological episode in himself and others. So if he can’t find an environmental source that’s native to this place, he’ll assume a person is manipulating it somehow through psychic abilities or something like Star Wars characters’ “force.” To be succinct: he’ll roll with this one.

Being physically and/or mentally manipulated, such as having hallucinations or suddenly possessing special abilities they did not have before?
Frank won’t like being messed with mentally again, and it’ll be especially hard on him now that he has immunity from biological mind control such as Kilgrave’s. He also will not adjust well at all to having his own abilities. He’s grown used to being the least powered person in any given room, so giving him any type of ability he didn’t have before is going to throw his cart off its track. He already has a tendency to withdraw inside his mind so I foresee him struggling with these elements most of all. I look forward to delving into the conflict he will experience in not being able to reconcile himself with the man he was before and after Reims to the man he is now here in Sixth Iteration. He was irreversibly changed after the death of his family, though he slowly began to repair the parts of himself that could be healed; but he knew even before going to TQP that he would never recover the person he once was. Because he has a tendency to over-empathize and become obsessed with any obstruction in his life, no matter how tiny or significant, he will also become obsessed with trying to fix this place like he was in Reims in due time. I think this will cause conflicts with others as well as internally and will create a dynamic experience for his projected path in this game.

    WRITING SAMPLES

    SAMPLE 1
Why did you choose this sample? this was frank’s second night at the quiet place when he witnessed jessica murder kilgrave. this set his priorities in game from here on out so it’s arguably the most important for action & cr both.

    SAMPLE 2
Why did you choose this sample? this sample illustrates frank’s complete codependence on/with micro. this is also right after he was kilgraved so it delves into some of the trauma of having his mind messed with.
